  Jim Clements Conservation Fund

The Jim Clements Conservation Fund is dedicated to the conservation and study of rare and endangered Peruvian birds. Birding in Peru was one of Jim Clements' great passions, which led to his publication of A Field Guide to the Birds of Peru, which Jim co-authored with Noam Shany, and his contributions to conservation projects.

As a testament to Jim, Nature and Culture International, in cooperation with the Clements family, has created the Clements Conservation Fund to continue Jim's efforts to protect endangered birds and their habitats throughout Peru. A priority project will be to continue Jim's commitment to protect the rare white-sand forests of the Allpahuayo-Mishana Reserve in Loreto.

These forests, among the most ancient in South America, are severely threatened, and are home to several bird species that are found no-where else. Among these are the Allpahuayo Antwren and Jim's bird, the Iquitos Gnatcatcher (Polioptila clementsi)

In Allpahuayo-Mishana the Clements Conservation Fund aims to:
• Purchase a significant portion of the Gnatcatcher territory not currently under adequate protection.
• Provide funding for park rangers for the reserve.
• Support public awareness project of the Gnatcatcher and the reserve.
• Support much needed environmental education projects in Iquitos.

Donations to the Clements Conservation Fund may be made to Nature and Culture International, either by email to NCI, 1400 Maiden Lane, Del Mar CA 92014, or by clicking the donate link below and designating the Clements Fund. Thank you!
