What's an "offset?"

Activities in your everyday life add to the emissions that pollute the atmosphere and contribute to global warming.

You can help stop global warming as well as save valuable tropical forests by contributing to our Living Forest program. This is referred to as a "carbon offset" because it reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

Your offsets will save ancient tropical forests in southern Ecuador, one of the highest priority regions in the world for conservation.

What causes global warming?
People are burning oil and gas, as well as burning forests. These activities release the greenhouse gases into the atmosphere and cause global warming.

How can we stop global warming?
We can help reduce greenhouse gases by 1) using less electricity and gas, 2) encouraging the use of renewable energy such as solar and wind, and 3) halting the burning of forests, especially tropical forests.

When forests are burned, they release greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. This causes about 20% of the pollution each year. Tropical forests are especially important because they contain valuable biodiversity. You can reduce the burning of tropical forests by buying Living Forest Carbon Offsets.

The average person in the US is responsible for 21 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

We invite you to buy 1 acre or more for each person in your household at
OFFSET NOW or use Carbon Calculator.

An acre saves 32 tons of pollution.

Where does the money go?
Your contribution goes 100% directly to purchase and protect highly biodiverse tropical forests in southern Ecuador. None of your money goes to administration and overhead because that's covered by Nature & Culture International as part of its core budget.

How do we protect the tropical forests?
Nature & Culture International helps local communities with education and sustainable activities. Most of these people realize that it is in their own interest to protect their ecosystem. They just need a little help from us.

Over the last 12 years the Nature & Culture International has grown to a local staff of more than 70 people, from the tropical communities themselves, working in southern Ecuador and northern Peru. Nature & Culture International is a public non-profit (501 c3) US organization and you contributions are fully tax deductible.
