The Quebrada de Pilares - Lancones, Piura, is part of the border zone between Peru and Ecuador, and the same position delineates the east limit of the ACD La Ceiba, reason why the Peruvian population on the right side of the border are important actors in the process of conservation management in the area.
This project is complementary to the Project La Ceiba-Pilares and therefore has made possible the strengthening of local organizations (Local Meetings of Development - JUVEDs) of eight villages on the right border of the Quebrada. Through training courses and the implementation of actions on behalf of maintenance and management of forest resources, in active participation with both adults and children in school age, it have been feasible to compromise local leaders to better productive activities (agriculture and cattle ranching) reducing the negative impact on the local environment.
The activities have involved both men and women. At the present time, eight JUVEDs have been skilled in administrative and financial management of funds contributed by the Project La Ceiba-Pilares to be used in productive activities, and in other aspects of organization.
Likewise, farmers have increased technical capacities of cattle healthcare, agriculture with an agro-ecological approach and native beekeeping during days of training in the field and internships courses. At educational level, the implementation of the EEPE methodology has been accomplished at three rural schools, using the concept of the didactic school garden for research linked to sustainable alternative production.
